How does the therapy work?
In our 12 years of research in the thorough treatment of repressed emotions and negative cognitions, we have recognized that self-esteem is largely dependent on the beliefs (core beliefs) that we have within us. The father of cognitive behavioral therapy, Aaron T. Beck (psychotherapist), also assumed this in his theory.
In this therapy, we therefore want to use the actually simple principle of using the power of belief (known from the placebo research) to change/improve our own cognitive abilities or characteristics. This has now been impressively proven in many different studies (see Dweck 2006).
But why should such an approach work?
We humans have an incredibly strong power within us, the power of belief, We know from studies that this power comes with strong effects, for example it can produce neuronal activation in the brain, cause blood sugar to drop in diabetics, solve asthma, increase heart rate, change blood pressure, it makes hair fall out in placebo chemotherapy, etc. A New York study even showed the impressive result that the chemical effect of a placebo effect can be so great that it can not only cancel out the effect of administered medication, but even reverse it (T. J. Luparello, N. Leist et al: The interaction of psychologic stimuli and pharmacologic agents on airway reactivity in asthmatic subjects. In: Psychosomatic medicine. Volume 32, Number 5, 1970 Sep-Oct, ISSN 0033-3174, pp. 509-513, PMID 4097491).
This means that faith is capable of producing highly effective substances that are clearly superior to pharmaceutical preparations or toxic substances.
And these are just a few examples where faith is directed towards our body, but we now want to use this power of faith in such a way that faith works ABOUT US. And more precisely, we want to direct this power towards our self-worth. Because combined with the power of faith, we are already constructing our own world and now it’s about optimizing it in such a way that it strengthens our self-worth.
How do we do this?
No judgment is more important than the one we make about ourselves. We construct our own world, as not only Kant showed but also the many different studies that now exist on the subject of constructivism. And these judgments/assumptions/beliefs, in short beliefs, are stored in so-called cognitions or beliefs. These are the ones we believe in. Regardless of what objective reality is like, what we believe is true for us. With the power of belief, we create our own world, we construct it. This also happens for our self-worth. However, we are usually unconscious of these beliefs, so we don’t know what we think/store about ourselves or our self-worth. Or do you know what beliefs you have about yourself and your value? Have you ever checked this with yourself? If so, which beliefs/convictions?
And this is exactly what we do with this therapy, which makes us aware of our own personal strength and value. This happens with a variety of positive core beliefs about self-worth, which we activate/reactivate, link multimodally, make conscious and anchor deeply to strengthen self-worth!
